Raúl Villacorta has a competitive background in different disciplines, which helped him rapidly become an expert in the game of chess. He has been playing chess since 2021, has already achieved online ratings above 2200, and has defeated titled players online and in official tournaments, including GM Julio Granda at a simultaneous exhibition (Caro-Kann with the Black Pieces). Raúl was the BYU-Idaho chess club president for about 3 years and has coached the 2023 & 2024 Idaho State Scholastic Chess Champions (Madison High School in Rexburg, Idaho).
